Note: Polly appears in the list of children written in the family Bible by Mathew McCauley but does not appear in his will of 1811 along with all of the other children. It seems the only reasonable way to explain this is to assume Polly's death prior to the writing of that will.

Death of a brotherJohn McCauley
October 20, 1832 (Age 49 years)
Note:

The location of his death is uncertain, but Orange County NC seems most likely. His will and probate documents are from the court in Orange County NC. However, 1848 documents from Tipton County TN naming his son James guardian of two younger siblings, Verlina and George, speak their deceased father John as if he had originated in Orange County but later moved to TN. If that was the case, why would probate have been conducted in Orange County NC?

The 1850 US Census indicates that John's children, including his posthumously-born youngest, George W, were born in North Carolina and that the remaining family moved later to Tipton County TN to live with daughter Ellen (Eleanor) and her husband. So it seems that John McCauley did not have a residence in Tennessee.
